As I was working through the Love Songs, Vol. I project, I found myself wanting to return to my family’s Adriatic and Slavic roots and create something that might honor the spirit of my late father, who was also a musician.
Then it occurred to me: why not simply write a Croatian version of the song? So I did.
Working again with Suno, “Moje More” became something more than a translation of the song originally known as “My Own Personal Angel.” I let the original melody lead the way, while the lyrics took on a life of their own — a reflection on home, memory, the sea, and the feeling of finding peace somewhere that has always been part of you.
The resulting record takes me back decades, to when I used to listen to cassettes of the Split Festival (Festival zabavne glazbe Split). I may only be barely conversant in Croatian, but this song gave me an opportunity to return to something I heard all my childhood and, in my own small way, make it mine.
“Moje More”
[Strofa 1]
Sad… je sve što postoji
Pusti neka nosi val
Kraj moga mora
[Strofa 2]
Ne brini… i to će proći
Nosit ću uspomenu
Kraj moga mora
[Refren]
Uvijek si tu… moje more
Bez tebe nisam svoj
Od prvog daha… do tišine
Mir u srcu… uz moje more
[Instrumental]
[Strofa 3]
Samo… budi kraj mene
Tu je mir za oboje
Kraj moga mora
[Strofa 4]
Sunce… opet dolazi
Svaki dan nas doziva
Kraj moga mora
[Refren]
Uvijek si tu… moje more
Bez tebe nisam svoj
Od prvog daha… do tišine
Mir u srcu… uz moje more
[Bridge]
[Refren]
Uvijek si tu… moje more
Bez tebe nisam svoj
Od prvog daha… do tišine
Mir u srcu… uz moje more
Uvijek si tu… moje more
Bez tebe nisam svoj
Od prvog daha… do tišine
Mir u srcu… uz moje more
Uvijek si tu… moje more
Uvijek si tu… moje more
Uvijek si tu… moje more
Mir u srcu… uz moje more
