We spend so much of our creative energy fighting what we don’t want that we leave precious little room for what we do.
. . .
Much of our social training and cultural conditioning as thinking beings has an unnatural bent toward the negative.
It’s an extension of the idea of “not enough.”
We typically focus on ridding ourselves or our lives of things we do not want. But there’s a vast difference between pushing something away, or steadfastly resisting it, and letting go, thereby creating space to allow and welcome what we would prefer.
It’s critical to become conscious of the destructive ways we expend our precious creative energy. Too often, we default to reactionary, low-level yet high-cost battles that inevitably leave us depleted and wanting.
You can clearly observe this in common emotional transactions, especially between parents and children, or lovers and partners. Those dearest to us are both givers and receivers of intense, concentrated spiritual growth, acting as catalysts for personal transformation.
But the trickier, more insidious aspect of these struggles lies within us.
Our modern society engenders a perpetual battle between heart and mind, between rote logic and the feeling, knowing space. On this collective journey toward rebalancing, we must constantly remember to be easier on ourselves through it all.
There is practical value in betterment, achievement, and challenge, and it lies in self-discovery, self-awareness, and the ongoing pursuit of happiness. As we clarify and actualize our preferences, we become increasingly aware of what we do not want.
What lifts us, then, is the inherent lightness of focusing on what we do want, what we do prefer, what we feel good about, dream about, and imagine in our best-case scenarios.
This is where the poetry of this Earthly place exists. If stars and other luminaries come into being with ease, grace, patience, and the substantial force that worries not about clocks and clunky measuring sticks, who are we to brutalize ourselves over schedules, demands, and forcing reality to go our way?
